The Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) organization at Lamar State College – Orange have elected officers for the Fall 2015 semester. The group includes all Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) education majors. Long time educator Dorraine Babcock, is the sponsor.

The TOT president is Erin Welborn who is an Associate of Arts in Teaching 1 major. She graduated from Vidor High School in 2014, was a member of the Student Council, served as president of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America and was a member of the Texas Association of Future Educators. Welborn received a bronze medal from the FCCLA association, was a winner of the TAFE storybook contest and was on the A-Honor roll while in high school. She plans to finish her degree at Lamar University and teach fifth grade history. She is the daughter of Fawn and Michael Welborn.

The organization’s co-vice president is Peyton Duke. She graduated from Bridge City High School where she was a member of the Speech and Debate Clubs and received multiple debate awards. Duke plans to obtain her bachelor’s degree at Lamar University in education and eventually teach sixth grade history. She is the daughter of Chuck and Aimee Duke and has one sister, Nicole.

The TOT’s second vice president is Amy Wood. She graduated from Vidor High School in 2012 and will receive an AAT2 degree at LSC-O. Wood will then attend Lamar University and wants to become certified to teach seventh grade history. She is the daughter of Michael and Janice Wood and her siblings are Katrinna Watson, Miranda Mosley and Michael Wood.

Sharing the secretary duties for TOT will be Alyssa Taylor and Cheranequa Joulevette. Joulevette was a 2009 West Orange-Stark High School graduate. She will serve as secretary of the TOT organization with Alyssa Taylor. Joulevette was a member of the Future Teachers of America and Library Club while in high school. She plans on obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Lamar University to receive her Texas teaching certificate. Neka Joulevette is the daughter of Gerald Wilkes and Chasity Joulevette and has two sisters, Rayahna Richard and Raylee Richard.

Alyssa Taylor attended Bridge City High School and graduated in May 2015. While in high school Taylor was a cheerleader, was on the yearbook staff and played softball. She was also a cheer Hawaii U.S.A. participant and received several cheerleader awards. Taylor plans on attending Lamar University after receiving her associate degree in will teach fourth grade English and reading. Alyssa Taylor is the daughter to Steve and Amy Taylor and has one sister, Linzy Taylor.

Jay Nunez will serve as the treasurer of the TOT organization. He graduated from Orangefield High School in 2011 where he was the football quarterback. Nunez received multiple awards while serving in the United States military. After receiving his associate degree at Lamar State College-Orange, Nunez will obtain his bachelor’s degree in high school English, history and plans on becoming an athletic coach. Nunez is the son of Ralph and Judy Nunez and his wife is Mary Nunez, who is also an associate of arts in teaching major at Lamar State College – Orange.

The historian for TOT is Johnie Hinson. She graduated from Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School in 2007 where she was active in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization. Hinson plans on obtaining her bachelor’s degree at Lamar University and eventually teach kindergarten. She is the daughter of John Hinson and Susanna White and her siblings are Aden Mitchell, Caleb Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell and Easton Nevill.

The Teachers of Tomorrow will participate as a group at the student appreciation day on September 9 from 10:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., held at the LSC-O Student Center. They will also participate in the intramural volleyball tournament on Friday, September 18, also at the student center and will volunteer at the Lions Club Carnival which is held at the end of September through beginning of October at Lions Park in Orange.
