Thunderstorms, showers weakening tonight

Last updated 8/16/2016 at Noon

The National Weather Service is expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, before weakening after sunset tonight. Another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected on Wednesday, but the coverage should be less than today.

The average rainfall expected is less than an inch, but localized areas could see as much as 2 to 3 inches. If this occurs over areas that saw the heavy rains last weekend, we will be apt to issue flash flood warnings.

Major river flooding will continue in Louisiana on the Mermentau, Vermilion, and Bayou des Cannes for this entire week. Minor to major flooding will occur on the Calcasieu River.
