Putting children first makes Al Judice III the first “Father of the Year” named by the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce.

Judice, a 30-year resident of Bridge City and recently retired from a 35-year career working at and, eventually, running, his family’s Judice’s French Market in Port Arthur, was awarded the honor at the Bridge City Chamber’s June Networking Coffee hosted by Golden Triangle Emergency Center.

Mayor Pro-Tem Tammi Fisette read and official proclamation naming Judice 2017 Father of the Year.

A native of Port Arthur, he spent his career at Judice’s French Market, like his father and grandfather, who opened the grocery specializing in Cajun meats in 1927.

Over the years, he has owned and operated other businesses, including a maritime delivery service and game rooms, and dabbled in real estate.

Judice attended Thomas Jefferson High School. He married his wife Michelle in 1987, the same year he moved to Bridge City.

The couple has four children, sons Al IV and Nickolas and daughters Alicia and Nikita, and five grandchildren.

“Of all his endeavors in life, he whole-heartedly rates his children, grandchildren, and all children he is around as the most precious and enjoyable,” Michelle Judice wrote.

“While various chapters in Al’s life have opened and closed,” she continued, “he always puts children first and focused on being a good role model.

“His passion for and dedication to family have never swayed.”

Besides a title and official city proclamation, Judice received more than $1,000 worth of gift certificates and prizes from the Bridge City Chamber for being its first Father of the Year.

Generous sponsors included:  Anytime Fitness, Barfield Home Inspections and Pest Control, Bridge City Public Library, Candace Aras-RE/MAX ONE, Caryn’s Bakery, Energy Country Ford, Neches Federal Credit Union, Rani Dillow-Westin Mortgage Group, Sabine Federal Credit Union, Sabine River Ford, Sherry Hommel RE/MAX ONE, Tico’s Cuban Cafe, and Tiger Rock Martial Arts Bridge City.

The Father of the Year will receive dignitary status in the Bridge City Christmas Light Parade and be recognized at the Bridge City Chamber’s Annual Banquet.
