Police are investigating a shooting at a hotel at about 1:30 am at the Best Texan Inn on IH-10 in Orange. According to police, an officer with the Orange Police Department responded to the hotel after a dispatcher for a report of a suspicious vehicle. James “Butch” Tumey, 76, of Winnie, died Saturday, Jan. 3. He was born April 14, 1938, in Harris County, to Florence Dorothy Hill Tumey and Sidney Thomas Tumey. Butch had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was an independent pipeline welder for over 45 years and enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles. Drivers traveling south over the Rainbow Bridge may have had an unexpected delay on Tuesday morning. The Texas Department of Transportation started maintenance on the bridge on Monday, Jan. 5. In order to do the work, TxDOT closed the right lane until next year for painting and repair work. An Orange man bit off more than he could choose when he tried to shoplift spare ribs from the Kroger store on 16th St. The would be robber, 44 year old Jammie Lee Davis, apparently bit one of the store's employees when the employee tried to stop Davis from stealing the meat.
