The Orangefield girls are competitive from the word go and tonight was no different, the teams battled it out every play and fun was had...

  • Take a gander in the mirror!

    Updated May 27, 2009

Off and on the last several weeks, home schooling has been discussed in the media. Some parents blame public schools for everything from swine flu to Hurricane Ike. These are usually the ones who end up home schooling their own just to spite the local district. Some are justified like the one who home schooled because she wished to instill more religious aspects in the child. Nothing wrong with that. To be honest, such a class, conducted secularly, wouldn’t be bad in public schools. But it’ll never happen. I’m a retir...

A MILLION DOLLAR WINNER, LOTS OF BUZZ I went by to see our buddy Millard Cox and Ms. Ginny this week. Both have been under the weather with some kind of crud. Neighbor Cox got a shot from Dr. Chris Penning. Cox calls him “Kid.” Anyway, the good doctor fixed Cox up and he was tending the scaled down neighborhood garden. Cox has even quit cutting neighborhood grass. Ms. Ginny was waiting for the holidays to end and the doctor’s office to reopen. *****The buzz for a week around Bridge City has been the million-dollar lotto...

    Updated May 27, 2009

Orange County Commissioners Tuesday discussed hurricane preparedness, some matters related to Hurricane Ike and approved two grants for existing sheriff’s programs. Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Kelley said his office was recently granted access to a database program that clarifies the red tape associated with FEMA’s “Project Worksheets.”  Project Worksheets are used to file claims, and can often be long, complicated forms that result in more confusion once they are returned to the county, Kelley said.
