Tax increases not expected The Bridge City City Council Tuesday adopted its 2009-10 budget, which saw a slight increase from last year’s $5.9 million. It now stands at $6.2 million. Stark Museum of Art added a new piece to its permanent collection Tuesday. “Oblivious,” a bronze piece cast in 2007, depicts a sleeping bear at the top of a tree trunk. The sculpture was installed at the entrance of the museum, facing Green Avenue under the watchful eye of sculptor Dan Ostermiller. When Little Cypress and Pinehurst Fire Departments responded to a fire at 750 S. Teal Road in Orange, Tuesday, they found Marjorie Bilbo, 80, on the floor unconscious. Bilbo had called 911 around 1:18 p.m., Tuesday, reporting her home was on fire. She was instructed to leave the residence. When firefighters arrived about three minutes later, they found Bilbo on the floor at the rear of her home, unconscious. Life saving procedures were deployed on Bilbo. After an investigation was conducted at the Spin and Win Game Room in Vidor, warrants were issued resulting in three arrests Tuesday. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office had received numerous complaints from the community concerning illegal gambling activities occurring at 3665 North Main St. in Vidor. CHAMPS gets a big boost After meeting earlier this week, the Orange County Hotel Occupancy Tax Committee set a public hearing for 10 a.m. Friday in Orange County commissioners’ court, 123 Sixth St. Committee member Bobby Fillyaw, also director of the Orange County Economic Development Corp., said the committee will make a recommendation based on the hearing in a future commissioners’ meeting.
