    The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring Tropical Depression 9, which is now on the verge of becoming a tropical storm in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The forecast track still shows a landfall on Thursday in the Big Bend region of the west coast of Florida. The only local weather affects we are seeing is tides running about a foot above normal, which will continue as long as there is a tropical cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico.     The Kiwanis Club of Orange took a field trip this week as the organization held its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in Orange to meet Maxine the Owl.
