  • OC Dem leaders don't fear Trump's watchers

Dave Rogers, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

President Donald Trump undoubtedly was suffering some effects of early-stage COVID-19 when he said it last Tuesday. And it has certainly gotten lost in the weekend hubbub caused by his Friday announcement that he had the disease that he's often downplayed while it killed more than 200,000 Americans. But his call during his televised debate with Joe Biden for "my supporters to go into the polls and watch very carefully" to make sure ballots aren't "manipulated" in the Nov. 3...

  • Bridge City thanks hurricane helpers

Dave Rogers, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

The Bridge City Hall council chambers were full again Tuesday night – at least as full as they could be with the seats spread far apart for social distancing. Not only did COVID-19 forced the monthly city council meetings to move to telephones, but there was a little thing called Hurricane Laura at the end of August. October's meeting featured lots of thank-yous from Mayor David Rutledge and the city to the folks who helped the city get days without electricity and for some t...

  • Sherlock Breaux in the Creaux's Nest

Sherlock Breaux, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY It's just outrageous what is happening to our country. What started with just one case of coronavirus has led to a recession and a sick nation. Life at every turn is a far cry from what we enjoyed as normal. We are four percent of the world's population and yet because of ill prepared leadership we own 20 percent of all COVID-19 cases and world deaths despite many deaths in the United States being undercounted. In Texas, a Houston Chronicle...

Pastor Keith Royal says the pumpkin sale, which benefits the church's water-well drilling mission work, is open from 10 a.m. to dark on weekdays, from 9 a.m to dark Saturdays and from noon to dark on Sundays while supplies...

    Updated Oct 6, 2020

Bridge City Citizens, we need to keep our Community involved! Some of the best ideas and solutions actually come from our citizens. I am retired from Gulf Oil/Chevron after 29 years of service. My wonderful wife, of 38 years, and I...

  • Kaz's Fearless Forecast

Joe Kazmar, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

Games This Week WEST ORANGE-STARK over SILSBEE—This could very well determine the District 11-4A-II champion. Both teams are loaded with talent, great defenses and stellar quarterbacks. Silsbee has the home-field advantage, but will probably need more than that Friday night. HUFFMAN over LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE—The Battlin’ Bears have had a difficult time putting points on the scoreboard and will have to in order to keep up with these explosive Falcons. But it’s a brand-n...

  • Astros again underdogs in ALDS against Oakland A's

Joe Kazmar, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

Kaz's Korner I have to apologize to the area’s Houston Astros fans for portraying them as a feeble team in their Wild Card Playoffs against the AL Central Division champion Minnesota Twins last week. I watched a Minnesota team that was feebler than the Astros ever were accused of being. But I really think the Astros merely remembered how well they have played in previous post-season years. I gained a lot more respect for Manager Dusty Baker by the impressive way he used the As...

Capt Chuck Uzzle, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

Another opening weekend for Texas bowhunters has come and gone and the again the weather man is at the front of the conversation. Saturday morning started off as good as you could ever hope for with cool temperatures, little to no humidity, and light winds that made it really feel like fall. Most years it seems the first good push of cold air always happens a week before the season opens only to give way to the heat for opening day. This was definitely not the case as it was...

  • Which Way To Go

Capt. Dickie Colburn, For the Record|Updated Oct 6, 2020

Jason said they caught white perch as quickly as they could lower a black...
