November 1, 1902, was an important day for the society people of the prosperous city of Orange. The grand Holland Hotel opened, right by the Opera House, and for the first time, visitors to the city could stay in big-city-style splendor. For nearly 110 years, a large marble marker, carved with names of local officials, stood to commemorate the 1898 Orange County Courthouse. First Christian Church in Orange goes back 122 years with history rich enough to earn it a Texas Historical Marker. The marker was dedicated with a service and ceremony in December. The church, affiliated with the Disciples of Christ denomination, is now at 611 Ninth St. at the corner of Cypress Street in a building dedicated in 1954.
