  • Sherlock Breaux in the Creaux's Nest

    Updated Aug 13, 2019

ANOTHER WEEK—A LITTLE OLDER Well, as I sit here wondering what I will write about, I think about the Jeffery Epstein death. Some folks are claiming he robbed them of closure. How much more closure can there be than a man killing himself over his misdeeds. Oh well, that’s a whole other story. I’m sure some ladies are entitled to compensation but Attorney Lisa Bloom and her mom, Gloria Alred are worried about missing a big payday. Other lawyers will find clients coming out of the walls. It won’t soon be settled but in the mea...

  • GREAT THINGS HAPPENING TO HOUSTON ASTROS’ FORTUNES

    Updated Aug 6, 2019

In last week’s column I wished the Houston Astros would pick up a starting pitcher before last Wednesday’s trading deadline. Boy!! Did I “under wish” on that one. Not only did the Astros pick up a starting pitcher in a regular rotation, but they also managed to pry Zack Greinke from the Arizona Diamondbacks less than an hour before the 3 p.m. Wednesday trading deadline. Instead of just getting a member of a major league team’s starting pitching staff, in Greinke the Astros were able to add a future Hall of Fame pitcher w...

  • BACKWATER CHALLENGE THIS WEEKEND

    Updated Aug 6, 2019

With the Backwater Challenge Tournament set for this weekend, a lot of spectators as well as competitors were more than a little interested in the leader board at last week’s OCARC event. Obviously, the two categories that garnered the most attention were bass and redfish. For the first time in the history of the OCARC event, the winning bass was worth $750 and that didn’t go unnoticed by some of the top river fishermen in the area.Based solely on recent Sabine River Shootouts, I predicted it would take a fish over 4-p...

  • Sherlock Breaux in the Creaux's Nest

    Updated Aug 6, 2019

HE CAN LIE BUT HE CAN’T HIDE Last week when I sat here the headline I wrote at the top of the column said, “Hate escalates in the country.” I wrote it was a dark and hateful time and also that I believed it would get worse. Just a few days before I had listened to Trump speak at a rally in Cleveland, Ohio. He was spewing a lot of hate. I have a habit of studying people’s faces. It’s a part of me, it’s who I am. At his rallies I study the crowd, some are serious, and some are just there for the entertainment. I wondered ab...

  • CATCHING CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

    Updated Jul 30, 2019

The weather could go to pot by the weekend, but thus far scattered thunderstorms have not lasted long and runoff has not been a major problem. That is good news for the folks planning on spending this Saturday fishing the OCARC event. The following breakdown, as in past years, will hopefully get you pointed in the right direction if you haven’t been on the water much of late. My number one recommendation is to take along way more water than you ever thought you would drink and put on your sunscreen before you ever leave t...
