  • Cardinals Seek Another District Title

Dan Perrine, For the Record|Updated Feb 22, 2022

The Bridge City Cardinals should rebound from a frustrating season a year ago. The Cardinals will look to regain their perch atop the district standings that they have achieved 26 times in the school's great history of baseball. A third place finish in the district last year can be traced to Bridge City losing five league games in extra innings. Capt. Chuck Uzzle, For the Recored|Updated Feb 15, 2022

If you happen to be one of those people who live their life according to the weatherman you have had a great month so far, especially for February. All things considered the temperatures have been reasonably mild except for a few frosty mornings and we have been noticeably dry for weeks now. Anyone who has spent even a little time on Sabine knows that rain and run off from Toledo Bend are the arch nemesis to the local fishing community. Most of the time the water clarity in Fe...

Sunday's 23-20 Super Bowl victory by the Los Angeles Rams was a complete reversal of how every playoff game ended for the Cincinnati Bengals. For the last six weeks it was the Bengals that came from behind in the game's closing minutes to win, usually on a clutch field goal by their rookie kicker Evan McPherson at the end of the game or in an overtime period. But on Sunday, it was the Rams who came up with what will be identified as "The Drive" --replacing John Elway's drive i...

Last year was a very good one for Bridge City. The Lady Cardinals did not really finish the district where they wanted to, but they did make the playoffs. • Crossing the line

Capt. Chuck Uzzle, For the Record|Updated Feb 8, 2022

For as long as I can remember the first few weeks of every New Year have been an exciting transitional period for a myriad of reasons. The most obvious is the hope and high expectations that come from turning the calendar page and staring a brand new season in the face and liking what you see. For those of us enamored with the outdoors January and February are a fantastic buffet with endless options from one end of the spectrum to the other. Many of us have just put away our...

  • Kaz's Korner

Joe Kazmar, For the Record|Updated Feb 8, 2022

If you were a diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan and slipped a ten-dollar bill to one of the Las Vegas sports books back in August to make a preseason bet on your team to win the AFC Conference Championship, today you would be $750 richer. Vegas had the line set at 75-1 on the Bengals winning the right to play in Super Bowl 56. And if you were a real Bengals fan and bet another $10 that your team would win Sunday's Super Bowl, the payout would swell to $1,500 if your team beats...

If a person got to watch only the first halves of Sunday's two NFL Conference Championship games, he would swear the Kansas City Chiefs would be playing the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVI on Feb.13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. However, both the Chiefs and the 49ers stumbled and lost their respective halftime leads and will now be at home watching the upstart Cincinnati Bengals meet the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. The Bengals stunned the Chiefs 27-24...

Millions of people right now are trying to figure out how to "legally cheat" on their income taxes so they can balance out their debt with the government. If the nation's cardiologists knew ahead of time how the four National Football League Divisional Playoff games would be played, they would have instructed all of their patients to watch the Disney Channel or something much less exciting than any of those four games. Three of the four games were decided by field goals as time expired, and the other went into overtime on a Kansas City field goal after Buffalo went ahead 36-33 with a mere 13 seconds left in regulation time....

Capt. Chuck Uzzle, For the Record|Updated Jan 25, 2022

Now for most people the thought of chasing fish in the months of January and February seems a little on the foreign side, even crazy at times. The cold water and dreary days don't really motivate the casual angler like bright skies and springtime conditions when everybody wants get on the water. Well the calendar has now become our friend and the good days are outnumbering the bad. If you are thinking about tackling trout or redfish any time soon you need to be properly armed...

On Friday I peered at the six "Wild Card" playoff games that were set for last weekend and tried to figure out which home team would be upset. After some research and calculations my answer kept coming up the Dallas Cowboys and perhaps the Los Angeles Rams, too. After all, it was apparent that the Buffalo Bills shouldn't have much trouble subduing the Cinderella New England Patriots, defending world champion Tampa Bay should waltz past the Philadelphia Eagles and their worst...
