VFW and Auxiliary attend Austin Workshops

Members of VFW Post 2775 and The Ladies Auxiliary attended the Annual Mid Winter Round Up.

Three days of workshops took place, during which the Ladies Auxiliary received a plaque for 100% Membership by Dec. 31, as well as the charms for each of the monthly quotas.

Margaret Malone has been the auxiliary Membership Chairman for a number of years and brought the membership up over 100% for the first time since Hurricane Rita.

Jeanette Clark, State Publicity Chairman handed out over 1,400 pieces of literature during the sessions.

During the Cancer Aid & Research session, a check for $1,000 was presented on behalf the Ladies Auxiliary by Orange Cancer Chairman, Jimmie Lee Whitfield.

Patricia Kemp and her husband, Kenneth, chaperoned the Voice of Democracy Winners during their three day stay.

Their activities included a tour of the Capitol and other places of interest and attendance at the Annual Voice of Democracy Banquet on Saturday Night.

Each of the 25 District Winners received a Scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $4,000.

Sixteen Patriot’s Pen winners received bonds ranging from $400 to $2,000.

Abby Gilliam, an eighth grade student at Little Cypress Jr.

High School was the Orange VFW and District 2 winner.

She received a $400 bond from State and $200 from District 2.

John Clark, Past VFW Post 2775 Commander is presently serving as District 2 Commander, where he has led the district to fourth place in the state.

Members are still working on programs and preparing for the Annual Awards program to honor all our local winners and service groups.
