Penelope Drake, a sixth grade student at Bridge City Middle School, is showing great potential as a runway model.
Her mother, Christie Hale, said “I put Penelope into modeling because I thought it would help her with her shyness.
She has blossomed.
It has been better for her than I could have ever hoped it would be.” A year ago Penelope asked about making the change from dancing into modeling.
She had been taking dance lessons since the age of five and wanted to try something different.
They discussed the options and Penelope asked if she could attend the Barbazon School of Modeling in Houston.
Her mother agreed to make the inquiries and after a few phone calls and some paperwork, Penelope was accepted.
At Barbazon she learned runway modeling, fashion modeling, still modeling (for mass media), newsmaking and acting.
Penelope learned the modeling craft so well that she has been handpicked to attend the Modeling Association of America International Convention.
The Convention will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, New York from March 22-27.
At the convention, the models will compete for scholarships in model-related and acting careers.
They will have the opportunity to interview with Nickelodeon, Elite Models, and the John Ford Agency.
There will also be the opportunity to compete for scholarships to the New York School for Film and Television and the New York Film Academy.
Penelope has set a goal of obtaining a scholarship to a film school to learn the art of acting.
The trip to New York will cost approximately $7,500 and the family is in the process of raising funds at this time.
If you would like to help offset cost or would like more information call Christie Hale at 409-474-0505.
