League of Women Voters hosts meeting in Orange

The League of Women Voters is trying to get started in Orange once again.

A meeting of at-large members and anyone interested in the league is invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m.

Tuesday at the Orange Police Department conference room.

Men and college students are also invited to attend.

The League of Women Voters began nationally in 1920 and is a non-partisan political organization with the goal of improving government and public policies through citizen education and advocacy.

Orange County had an active League of Women Voters for many years and the league often sponsored candidate forums.

However, in the 1990s, the local group disbanded.

Local citizens are once again trying to organize a chapter here.

Mrs. Barbara Swartz, of Houston, Texas, board member of the Texas League of Women Voters will be the guest.
