New Coach for Bridge City Defense

The Bridge City Cardinal 2008 football season will see the addition of Brad Caraway as the new Defensive Coordinator.

“There has been a great job done here in the off season and in the spring workouts.

The players have a great attitude and have done good in their spring work.

The players are in good physical condition, and we are looking forward to the next season,” Caraway said.

“I am coming in with a new program that has been successful in the past.

Along with teaching the program to the players I will also be trying to motivate the players into believing into the program.

If we all work together we will have a great team.

There is a lot of potential here and a good bunch of kids on this team.” Caraway has over 25 years of coaching experience gained from schools such as Forney High School in Forney, Texas, Tullosa Midway High School in Corpus Christi, 17 Years at Taylor-Cinco Ranch High School at Katy, and most recently Newman Smith High School at Carrollton near Dallas.

Caraway has been impressed with the program at BCHS, since joining the coaching staff on April 14 and becoming acquainted with the players.

He is bringing a new program for the defense.

He plans is to teach basic tactics in addition to new defensive strategy he will be using.

“One of the things that we will work on will be tackling.

It is important to use your eyes and get in the proper position.

Your eyes can tell you what your opponent is getting ready to do and you need to be in the proper position for the tackle.

Another thing is that when you make the tackle, you need to hang on.

We will begin with the basics and build up from there.

One thing we will work on is speed.

Speed is important, but there is a difference between field speed and sprinting,”he said.

While at Katy, Caraway coached with Stump.

They had the task of building a new team for a new high school.

“Coach Stump and I had the task of building a team from the ground up.

We brought together a group of kids that had never played together and started motivating them to play as a team.

It was rough at the start, but things came together and we had a successful team.

Coach Stump and I worked together for five years and we became good friends.

I am looking forward to working with him again,”Caraway said.

Caraway, a native of Robb, graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and later played football at East Texas State University at Commerce.

ETSU is now Texas A & M, Commerce.
