High School seniors earn High Schools That Work recognition

Aleecia Vontoure, Rebecca Griffin, Brandi O’Quinn, Amarienne Willliams, and Maria Hughey were recognized recently with the 2008 High Schools That Work Award of Educational Achievement at the West Orange – Stark High School Senior Scholarship and Awards Program.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement. In order to earn eligibility for the award, students must complete a college-preparatory course of study in at least two of three subject areas (English, mathematics and science) and a career/technical, mathematics/science or humanities concentration and meet readiness goals on the High Schools That Work assessment.

The Southern Regional Education Board’s High Schools That Work initiative is the nation’s largest effort to combine challenging academic courses and modern career/technical studies to raise the achievement of students.

“Congratulations to WOS and the students for their outstanding achievement. Our new subject tests contain higher-level content than in past years. Additionally, the standards have been raised to align to college-and career-readiness standards. These students should truly be commended for their hard work and outstanding achievement,” said Beth Green, High Schools That Work consultant, Southern Regional Education Board.
