Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
July is a good time to make ice cream, however I’m not so sure that it will be any better time than right now according to the weather right now.
You’ll need a gallon freezer.
I make mine about half diet and half regular as you will see. First lets make some Orange Sherbet. This is not Charlie’s favorite, however the kids like it.
1 box of ice cream salt 2 cans of sweetened condensed milk 6 cans of orange drink 2 bags of crushed ice.
Mix the condensed milk with 2 cans of drink. Put it into freezer and then add the rest of the orange soda up to the fill line inside the can. Put it into the tub and follow the instructions on the box of salt it should be finished in about 30 minutes.
If you don’t have any sweetened condensed milk here is a recipe to make one can. You need 1/2 cup hot water, 2 cups powdered milk and 1 cup sugar. Mix well and use right away. You’ll need to double the recipe for 2 cans.
Vanilla Ice Cream 2 cans carnation milk 2 Tablespoons vanilla 1 1/3 cups sugar 3 well beaten eggs 1 or 2 bags of ice 1 box ice cream salt Enough milk to fill to ring on gallon can.
My milk is usually fat free. Beat eggs, sugar and can milk together. Add vanilla. Add remaining milk to ring in can.
Freeze according to directions on salt box. Enjoy.
