Cardinals rolling like a freight train

The states No. 4 ranked Bridge City Cardinals are rolling through Dist.

21-3A  like a freight train with seven straight wins.

With just three games remaining and the baseball playoffs drawing near, the Big Red victory train is picking up speed with no sign of slowing down.

The Cardinals defeated the Silsbee Tigers 7-4 Monday night with star pitcher Matt Hicks going the distance sending 15 Tiger batters to the dugout.

Cardinal slugger Luke Rhodes had three RBI for the Cardinals while Joe Robertson finished with a triple and two runs.

Bridge City will host the West Orange-Stark Mustangs, Friday night in Cardinal Field.

The Mustangs defeated the 10th ranked Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns 2-1 on Monday.

With a comfortable two game lead in district play, the Cardinals will host Orangefield, Tuesday, and travel to Hamshire-Fannett for the season finale on Friday, April 24.

Although the Cardinals are eying the Dist.

21-3A crown they still have to get past their three toughest opponents to enter the playoffs undefeated.

The WO-S Mustangs, The Orangefield Bobcats and the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns all sit tied for second place at 4-3 going into this Friday ‘s games.

Monday the Orangefield Bobcats smoked the Hardin Jefferson-Hawks 8-0 with catcher Jacob Felts pitching six innings.

Felts also hit a two-run homer and tallied three RBI. Jace Statum pitched the final inning for the Bobcats to close down the show.

Statum was 3-for-4 at the plate that included a three run shot to left field.

The WO-S Mustangs finish their season next week against Hardin-Jefferson and Orangefield.

Orangefield will face Bridge City and WO-S. The Region III bi-district round will be played May 9 that could include WOS and Orangefield.

If the Cardinals remain undefeated they will likely enter the playoffs in the regional area round May 16.

From there the race to the UIL State Baseball tournament begins.

The championship tournament will be played at Disch Falk Field in Austin June 10-13.

In Orange County softball action The Bridge City Lady Cardinals and the Orangefield Lady Bobcats will both hold “Senior Night” this Friday.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears will host “Senior Night” on Monday.
