LC-M sports update

Baseball Bears Fall Full Game Back in Heated Race for District 20-4A Crown LC-M pitchers Shane Waddell and Taylor Thompson combined their talents to hold the Nederland Bulldogs scoreless for six full innings in a game originally scheduled for last Friday, postponed due to bad weather. Played in Nederland on Monday evening, a large number of enthusiastic fans were in attendence.

Nederland hitters dampened the Bears district title hopes early, in the bottom of the first, when the Bulldogs scored all four of their winning runs. The LC-M Bears managed to score off hard throwing Josh Dean only with single runs in their fourth and fifth innings.

Pitcher Josh Kirby closed out the game for the Bulldogs and was credited with a save, sealing the win for Dean.

The hardest hit ball of the evening by either team was a clean double by Bear shortstop Stefan Cloeren to deep left center in the top of the fifth. Cloeren then was able to cross home plate on a passed ball, bringing game scoring to its final 4-2 tally, and giving the Bulldogs sole possession of first place in district competition, with but a couple of games remaining to be played by each team before playoff competition begins.

Lady Bears Advance to Playoffs in Softball and Golf, as Do Bear Golfers LC-M’s Lady Bears defeated Lumberton Monday night, 3-2, assuring themselves a second place finish in District 20-4A and a playoff spot. Also on Monday the LC-M golfers finished their first round of regional play at Huntsville’s Waterford course in seventh place. The final round of the competion for both the girls and the boys was to be played on Tuesday, April 21, at the Huntsville course.

Both the boys and the girls LC-M double teams qualified: Corey Guilbeaux and Chris Stacy in the boys bracket; and Chelsea Art with her partner Casandra Hug in the girls bracket.
