Bronze bear joins Stark collection

Stark Museum of Art added a new piece to its permanent collection Tuesday. “Oblivious,” a bronze piece cast in 2007, depicts a sleeping bear at the top of a tree trunk.

The sculpture was installed at the entrance of the museum, facing Green Avenue under the watchful eye of sculptor Dan Ostermiller.

Oblivious was cast by the artist for the Stark Museum at a foundry in Loveland, Colo., where Ostermiller lives. The museum’s cast is number 7 in an edition of 12. Other casts are in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; Big Horn, Mont.; Santa Fe, N.M.; upstate New York; Roswell, N.M.; and the Nedra Matteucci Galleries in Santa Fe.
