Food/fitness series A free six-week series sponsored by Better Living For Texans of Orange County Extension designed to teach adults to make healthier choices one day at a time, will be on Mondays April 5 through May 10 from noon to 1 p.m.

OC Democratic Convention The Orange County Democratic Party’s Democratic County Convention will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

Delegates and Democrats are invited. LSC-O ‘Green Day’ Lamar State College-Orange’s “Green Day” will be Wednesday (March 17) on the LSC-O library lawn.

Music will run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., but booths will be set up by 10 a.m.

The Student Government Association will serve free hot dogs, various organizations will have items on display and share information on their programs; with live music provided by John “Human I-Tunes” Taglieri.

Booths include dental assisting, information technology, Criminal Justice Society, Sabine Federal Credit Union, bone marrow donation and the Relay for Life faculty/staff team.

First Baptist-Orange Easter Egg Hunt First Baptist Church of Orange, along with the Preschool/Children’s Ministry Team will host its annual Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m.

April 3 on church property, about three miles north of Interstate 10 on Martin Luther King Drive.

The event is planned for all children of the Orange community – toddler through sixth grade.

In addition to the hunt, activities include face-painting, bounce houses, crafts, snack time and entertainment time.

Children might find special eggs during the hunt that will include prizes.

Also, attendance prizes will be awarded, such as a DVD player, a Nintendo DS Lite and Toys R Us gift cards.

Spring Festival hosted by LC Baptist Church Little Cypress Baptist Church, 3274 Little Cypress Dr., will have a Spring Festival  8 a.m.

Activities will include a garage sale, food and drinks, silent auction, youth car wash, country store and bake sale.

The public is invited.

St. Mark Lutheran Church “Rolls Back the Rock” Easter Sunday, St. Mark Lutheran Church, 945 W. Roundbunch Road, Bridge City, will “Roll Back the Rock” on their finished church with beautiful traditional Easter services at 9 a.m.

and contemporary services at 11 a.m.

At 10 a.m.

they will serve an Easter Brunch in their new Fellowship Hall.

The Sanctuary is complete except for pews.

The public is invited to visit, share a special service to re-dedicate the church and enjoy brunch on Easter Sunday.

Community Wide Easter Egg Hunt Trinity and St. Mark Lutheran Churches will host a community wide Easter egg hunt from noon till 2 p.m.

on Saturday, April 3.

The hunt is for all ages; children, teens and adults.

The churches will offer lunch at noon; crafts, stories and games start at 12:30 p.m .; egg hunt begins at 1:30 p.m.

followed by a Golden Egg Race.

Festivities are going to be located on Trinity Church grounds, 1819 16th st.

The public is invited.

Unity Church fundraiser A bazaar, rummage sale and bake sale to benefit Unity Church of Beaumont will start at 8 a.m.

Saturday at the church, 1555 S. 23rd St. The event is rain or shine.

Vendors should set up the day before and be at their booth no later than 7:30 a.m.

Vendor parking for set-up time is at the church.

Parking for vendors Saturday is next door at the blue building.

Church staff needs confirmation of vendors’ intentions by Thursday, a description of their venue, name, address and other details.

The church is taking rummage sale donations, which can be dropped off at WaterScythe, 2995 S. Fourth St. in Beaumont.

Local artists are welcome to set up a booth, and will not be charged for set up; only a 10-percent donation of any sales they make.

They provide their own table if possible or arrange to reserve one from the church at no charge.

Poison Prevention Week ends March 20 National Poison Prevention Week, which began March 14, focuses attention on a public health problem that happens all year long.

Of the two million to three million poisonings reported annually, more than half involve children under age 6.

The Southeast Texas Poison Center, housed in the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, is a 24-hour poison information and emergency treatment resource for the public and health care professionals in 28 counties in Southeast Texas.

“Unintentional poisoning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in Texas and nationwide,” said Jon Thompson, director of the SETPC. “Poison centers are our nation’s primary defense against injury and deaths from poisoning.” Calling 1-800-222-1222 provides access to a network of physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with extensive education, training and expertise in clinical toxicology or poisoning.

The center also conducts education activities promoting a safer environment for Texans.

Shred It and Forget It The Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas will host ”Shred It and Forget It” from 10 a.m.

to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 10, at Central Mall as part of an effort to reduce identity theft. Since July 2006, seven events have successfully been held in Southeast Texas.

Shred-It will provide mobile shredding trucks for the one-day event.

The BBB invites consumers to bring documents to be shredded for FREE, such as credit card statements, old checks, I.R.S. tax returns, and anything that lists personal information.

Bring up to five (5) boxes per vehicle.

(Box size is limited to a standard banker’s box, approximately 10 x 12 x 15 inches.) The BBB stresses the importance to shred your confidential documents; when improperly disposed of, it can lead to identity theft. “Shred It and Forget It” is brought to you by Shred-It, MCT Credit Union, Bill Clark Pest Control, and Clear Channel Radio, with additional support from the Lamar University’s Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Beaumont Coca Cola Bottling Co., and Papa John’s Pizza.

The event will be held at the Central Mall parking lot off Hwy 69.
