Hometown Baseball

The Bridge City Cardinals squared off with Westlake, but only played three and half innings. It only took Matt Hicks  twenty-one pitches and six batters to get through the first two innings. Hicks struck out four batters to go along with two ground outs.

Freshman Hayden Guidry pitched the last two innings. Guidry struck out two, gave up two hits, three walks and allowed two runs to cross the plate.

The Cardinals exploded for an eleven run second inning.

Mitchel Hubbard led off with a single but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

Zach Smith hit a double, followed by a walk to Dylan Mulhollan.

Forrest Zoch had the first RBI of the game with a single, followed by another walk to Cameron Dishon.

Joe Robertson and Hicks each had singles with Robertson collecting two RBIs and Hicks one.

Luke Rhodes drew a walk and Matt Menard took his turn with an RBI single.

Hubbard walked and Smith added to the RBI’S with a single.

Mulhollan moved the runner over with a fly ball to right field, and then Zoch collected his second RBI of the inning with a double.

Dishon received his second free pass of the game followed by Robertson’s fourth RBI of the inning with a double.

Rhodes and Hubbard both had singles in the third frame.

Westlake took their turn in the fourth but the game was called because of weather.

The Cardinals were schedule to face Baytown Christian for their last pre-district game and will open district up at home against Hamshire-Fannett Friday.

Quinton Evans, I mean the Orangefield Bobcats, are back to their winning ways by pounding the Kirbyville Wildcats 16-0.

Evan was three for four with two homeruns and a triple.

He scored three runs and collected four RBI’S. He also helped out on the pitching.

He pitched one inning with one strike out.

Jacob Felts picked up the win on the mound, pitching three innings while collecting two strikeouts.

Josh Watson helped out on the mound by pitching one inning with one strikeout.

Combined the Bobcats had a four hit shutout.

Kyle Fontenot and Corey Huckabay had a perfect night at the plate both going three for three.

Huckabay scored three runs and Fontenot had two doubles, scoring two runs and recording two RBIs.

Jonathan DeRamus and Felts both went two for three; DeRamus with a double, three RBI’S and two runs scored, while Felts had two doubles and three RBI’S. Derrick Evans contributed with a double, scoring one run and had an RBI.

Chase Angelle had a perfect game for the first three innings against Tarkington. Tarkington had their only hit in the fourth inning.

Angelle gave up one hit and one run, while striking out five. The Bobcats batted around the first two innings on their way to a 12-1 victory. Two long balls were hit in the game, a three run homerun from Felts and a two run homerun by Huckabay. Felts added a double and an RBI for a two for two hit night, while Huckabay had a perfect game at the plate adding a single and a sac fly with five RBI’s. Jace Statum, DeRamus, Angelle and Watson all had singles in the game. Evans had a two for two hit game, with a double and a single, both recording RBI’S.

Orangefield played Deweyville In a close one, coming out a winner 8-7 and beat Buna 5-0 in their last pre-district game. The Bobcats will open up with West Orange-Stark Friday, for their first district game.

WOS had a pre-district game with Evadale. The Mustangs came out on top with an 11-0 win. Zane Anderson had another fine performance on the mound throwing a complete game, giving up two hits while striking out nine. No walks or runs were surrendered.

Jordan Darnall stayed hot with the bat going two for three with a single and a three run homerun. He collected five RBIs. Darius Mitchell went two for three also. He slapped a single and a three run homer. Justin Sparrow, Clayton Gearhart, Taylor Turley, Josiah Phares, Jake Klinkhammer and James Thomas all hit singles in the game with Klinkhammer and Thomas recording RBIs. Coach Riojas said, “The team is playing with a lot of confidence and clicking at the right time.”

The Mustangs were scheduled for their last pre-district game against Sulphur and will open district up at home against the number four state rank Orangefield Bobcats.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville dropped their first district game to the Port Neches-Groves Indians 9-0.

Blake Reyenga had a fine night on the mound for the Indians, allowing only three hits.

The Bears picked up their first hit of the game in the second inning off the bat of Brandon Landry, a single.

LCM hit two more single in the fifth inning one by Scott Vaughan and Casey Burleigh.

Kody Smith, Reid Fults, Josh Veillon, Clay Ryan and Alex Blem shared the pitching for the Bears.

Kody Smith kept the game close by pitching 3 2/3 innings while allowing two hits, recording one strike out, and hitting one batter.

He allowed three walks and one run during his performance.

The Bears shot themselves in the foot with nine walks and four errors in the field.

LCM took their frustration out on the Central Jaguar pounding them to a 14-2 win. The Bears pulled even in district at 1-1.

The Bears were schedule to play Nederland yesterday and will host Livingston Friday.

Vidor began their district play with a win against Beaumont Central 19-4. Vidor jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first inning and put five more runs on the board in the second. The Pirates added five more in the third and three in the fourth. Nineteen runs in four innings proved too much for Central to overcome. Vincent Armstrong took the win on the mound.

Vidor improved to 2-0 in district with a 2-1 victory over Lumberton. Trae Hester proved to be too much for the Raiders with seventeen strikeouts. The Pirates were scheduled to play Ozen yesterday and will travel to PNG Friday.
