Pinehurst police expand fleet

The Pinehurst Police Department’s latest addition to its fleet of police vehicles is a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup, equipped with a 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 engine. It is equipped with all of the traditional specialized equipment of traditional police cars.

Police Chief Fred Hanauer said, “When I began rebuilding the fleet I recognized the need for a pickup truck. There are times when property has to be transported and now we can do so without hiring tow trucks or having to bother other city workers.

"It will also be helpful in the event of a natural disaster such as we have seen in recent years.”

The vehicle has the same graphics as the Dodge Charger added to the Pinehurst Police Department fleet in November, 2009.

Hanauer is awaiting delivery of another 2010 Dodge Charger. Since his appointment, he has added two new police cars and two new trucks to the fleet with seized drug forfeiture funds and federal grants (total about $130,000) only costing taxpayers about $4,000 for related equipment.
