BCCC names Students, Business and Employee of the Month

BC Student of the Month

Amy Sattler has been named as the Student of the Month for Bridge City High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Kay Sattler. Amy is ranked second in a class of 160 and has a grade point average of 4.82.

She has participated in the State UIL Solo and Ensemble, All-Region Band and was named a Texas Music Scholar.

Amy is the recipient of the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence and is a Co-Salutatorian for the Class of 2010.

Very active in school activities, Amy is a member of the band, a color guard lieutenant and a member of Cardinals for Christ, Ready Writing UIL, Spanish Club, Art Club and the National Honor Society.

She has participated in First Church of Nazarene of Orange Youth Group mission trips and service projects.

Sattler plans to attend Southern Nazarene University pursuing a degree in biology/chemistry in the pre-vet program.

Newell Student of the Month for Orangefield -photo not available

Elana Newell has been named the Bridge City/Orangefield Rotary Club May Student of the Month for Orangefield. The daughter of Keith and Teri Newell,

Elana is ranked 1 in a class of 116 students. She has a grade point average of 3.98 on the college 4.0 and 4.72 ranking points.

As an athlete, Elana has participated in volleyball, basketball, track, cross country and tennis. She has served as treasurer and president in the Debate Club, secretary for Bobcats Against Drinking and Drugs, president of the National Honor Society and parliamentarian of the Student Government.

She has competed in University Interscholastic League competitions on the Computer Applications Team and CX Debate.

She has represented Orangefield for Kiwana’s Citizenship Day and at the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp.

Elana has received merit (Big O) Awards in Honors Geometry, Honors World Geography, Pre-AP Biology, Speech, Debate, Spanish I, Honors Algebra 2, and Honors Pre-Calculus; Rotary Club Honors recognition and was the highest ranking student during her entire high school years.

Very active in community service, Elana has participated in canned food drives, Salvation Army Christmas Tree, Hurricane Ike clean-up, Relay for Life, Pennies for Patients and Adopt-A-Family for Thanksgiving.

She has worked as a secretarial receptionist in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike and tutored Algebra I.

Currently she works at Teri’s Photography, taking and editing photographs, income and sales tax, filing and organization, direct sales, on-line orders, web-site maintenance, technical research. She also works for Trampolines USA updating products on web-site, filing.

Harvey Wilson of Orangefield High School said, “Elana Newell has been in CX Policy Debate for three years. She went to state with Jennifer Garrison when she was a Sophomore and then this year with Robert Ehrlich. She has spent a lot of time studying debate and still managed to keep her grades at a very high level. I would say that speaks for itself.”

RE/MAX Platinum: Business of the Month

The RE/MAX realty office in Bridge City is six years old this month. Working very long hours, seven days a week, with dedication and a very strong focus on a vision of being successful, Wilma Horner’s dreams took a giant step when she became the owner of RE/MAX Platinum in November of 2009.

Bridge City Chamber of Commerce named RE/MAX Platinum as Business of the Month during their monthly coffee that was held at the LaQuinta located on Texas Avenue.

“I have worked with her and now for her and I am amazed daily how her dedication and patience influences those around her,” said office manager Beverly Perry. “Her business ethics and personal morals are above reproach.”

The citizens of Orange county recently voted Horner the best real estate agent of 2009 and, likewise, voted RE/MAX Platinum as the best real estate office of 2009.

Andrus named Employee of the Month

The Employee of the Month named Tuesday at the LaQuinta is Elysia Andrus. Andrus has been employeed at Bette’s Boutique since its opening. She’s always cheerful with a bubbly personality.
