Rally Day tops in Orange

Tuesday’s Senior Citizens Rally Day, featuring free food, entertainment and health checks with the theme “Under the Big Top” was sponsored by Texas Agrilife, the Committee on Aging and Better Living for Texans. The first Rally Day took place in 1970.

Once again Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2772 hosted the event, which features recognition in several categories.

Winners were:

• Outstanding Female: Jacque Phelps, of Orange.

• Outstanding Male: Jimmie Stewart, of Orange.

• Oldest Man: Jon Repasky of Bridge City, born March 1, 1917.

• Oldest Woman: Inez Turner of Orange, born May 17, 1909.

• Couple Married the Longest: Robert and Mary Jackson, married Dec. 20, 1941 (69 years).

• Newlyweds/Couple Recently Married: Betty Jo Lormand, 81; and C.W. Lormand, 82, of Bridge City; married Dec. 1, 2007.
