Orangefield Bobcats host HF Longhorns

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Orangefield Bobcats (4-3, 0-2) but things will get on a more even keel this week when the ‘Cats host the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns (1-6, 0-2) on Friday. After district losses against the Silsbee Tigers, and then state ranked West Orange-Stark Mustangs, the Bobcats are in the hunt for a district win.

Senior quarterback Quinton Evans has already crossed the 1,000-yard mark this season with 1,011 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns going into the contest with Hamshire-Fannett. Evans rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown against the WOS ‘Chain Gang’ defense last week. Rylan Cook also punched in a touchdown as well against the “Stangs.

Bobcat fullback Evan Guidry has scored 12 touchdowns on 411 yards this season. The Orangefield offense is averaging 309.7 yards rushing and 23.3 points per game.

Defensively Orangefield is led by Josh Shores, Eric Truncale, Rylan Cook and defensive end Logan Moss. Combined the group accounts for 177 tackles, five interceptions and seven fumble recoveries.

A victory for Orangefield in Friday nights bout with the Longhorns could be just the lift the Bobcats need to go into the final two games of the Dist. 21-3A season. Up next is Hardin-Jefferson and then the Bridge City Cardinals for Bayou Bowl XI.

For now, however, the Bobcats are looking at Hamshire-Fannett for their first district win after defating East Chambers, Buna, Woodville and Jasper in non-district action to start the season.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at F.L. McClain Stadium. Come out and back the Bobcats against the Longhorns.
