LC-M Bears need win over Livingston

The LCM Bears met their match against the PNG Indians in a battle at The Reservation Friday night.

After coming off a big win against Vidor the previous week, LCM just couldn’t get a win in Port Neches and lost, 34-39.

Now the Bears need a win more than ever, sitting at a 3-2 district record, along with PNG and Livingston. Central remains in first place in District 20-4A with a perfect record of 5-0.

Leading the Bears Friday night was senior quarterback Hunter Gonzales, who has been a crucial part of the team all season long. He rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two.

“It’s always great to score,” Gonzales said. “My linemen really helped by opening up some good lanes for me. Our line blocked very well and we had some people step up. We made big plays when we had to.”

Those big plays may have helped the Bears stay with the Indians throughout the game, but PNG put up a hard fight and came out on top.

“PNG is a good team,” Gonzales said. “Their defensive linemen are pretty good but I feel our linemen did a good job against them.”

Also scoring for the Bears were juniors Casey Burleigh, with a 25-yard pass from Gonzales, as well as Jordan Harmon, who scored off of a 81-yard pass.

The Bears will face the Livingston Lions this Friday night at Battlin’ Bear Stadium for the LCM Homecoming game. Festivities will kick off at around 6 p.m. and the game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
