Chevron Retirees Association to meet

The Chevron Retirees Association will meet Monday, Jan. 10 at 11:15 a.m. at Robert’s Steakhouse, 3712 W. Park Ave., in Orange. All Chevron, Texaco and Unocal retirees, spouses and guests are cordially invited to attend this meeting for a good “Dutch treat” meal, fellowship, and an update on the latest activities of the CRA.

Stark Museum to host medieval Book of Hours

The Stark Museum of Art will exhibit selected medieval Books of Hours (prayer books with illustrations enhancing the text) from its collections until Jan. 8. The Books from the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries feature glorious handpainted illustrations, including Christmas imagery.

BCISD enacts the Child Find/Child Serve program

Child Find/Child Serve is a requirement for school districts to regularly identify, locat and appropriately place children and students with special needs. Bridge City ISD wants to effectively meet these requirements. The community is encouraged to Call the Bridge City ISD Special Education Office at 735-1628 if they know of a child or young adult, ages 3-21, with a special need.

BCISD to purge special education record

Effective Dec. 31, Bridge City ISD special education records will be purged for students whose special education services ceased prior to Aug. 2003. Any previous special education student, who is at least 18 years of age, or the parent/guardian of a minor student, may pick up recors in the Special Education Office. Additional information may be obtained by calling 735-1628.

BC High School Cheerleaders to sponsor safe New Year’s Eve lock-in

The Bridge City High School Cheerleaders are hosting a New Year’s Eve lock-in for children in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. This lock-in is a fundraiser for a cheerleading trip to Hawaii this summer and it provides a safe, guilt-free New Year’s Eve to parents.

The lock-in will take place in The Next Level Gym in Bridge City and the doors will open at 7 a.m. Children need to be picked up by 8 a.m. the following morning.

Pizza and drinks will be served for dinner and donuts will be served for breakfast. Snacks and extra drinks may be purchased all night long for $1 each at the Hawaiian Snack Shack. New Year’s trinkets will be for sale and photos with a cheerleader may be purchased for $10. The photos will be ready to take home that morning.

Movies and gym floor space will be available to keep the kids buys and the gym will have bouncers to keep the children safe and secure. Cost is $50 per child and space is limited to the first 80 children. To sign up or for more information, call 409-330-1905 or email [email protected].

Unclaimed BCHS Graduation Photos

The Counselor’s Office at Bridge City High School has graduation photographs of prior students who ordered picture packages but failed to pick them up. You may visit our website at http://www.bridgecityisd.net for a list of students for whom we have pictures or call 409-735-1539 for more information. Pictures will be discarded after Jan. 31, 2011.

American Legion Post 49 to host New Year’s Eve Dance

The American Legion Post 49 will be hosting a New Year’s Eve dance on Friday, Dec. 31 and will start at 8 p.m.

The music will be played to order, “you name it, we play it.” They will be playing music from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.

OFHS Library Club and Theatre Troupe host ‘Socks for the Needy and Homeless’

The Orangefield High School Library Club and Theatre Troupe members are hosting a “Socks for the Needy and Homeless” drive. They are collecting new pairs of socks from now until Jan. 15, 2011. The socks will be donated to the sheltering organizations here in Orange County to specifically help those ill or in need here at home. Donations may be brought to the Orangefield High School office or library. For more information please contact the high school at 409-735-3851.

2011 pound weight loss challenge issued

Greg the trainer has initiated a challenge to Bridge City and Orange County residents to lose 2011 pounds collectively from Jan. 1, 2011 thru April 1, 2011. He is providing full support for individual success and has prizes from the community to be awarded each month for the greatest monthly loser. LIT announces holiday break

Lamar Institute of Technology will closed for winter break on Thursday, Dec. 23.

The campus will reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2011. The first day of the Spring 2011 semester is Jan. 10.
