Jack Comer Sr., age 80, passed away on Jan. 7 at his home in Teague, Texas.
Funeral services for Jack Comer will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Mr. Comer’s grandsons, Matt Comer and Andy Comer will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery with U.S. Air Force Honors.
Visitation will be held on Monday with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born May 2, 1930 in Freestone County to Samuel Bell Comer and Iona Star McNutt Comer. Jack married Bonnie Mondell Wren on Jan. 6, 1950. Jack retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty years of service. He pastored churches across the state of Texas for forty years. He served as Constable of Freestone County for ten years. He once said his goal in life was to serve his Lord, his country and his community and he accomplished all three.
Jack is survived by his five children, Lynn Kurtz of Waxahachie, Debbie Anders and husband Raymond of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jack Comer Jr. and wife Pam of Bridge City, Gale Greeson and husband Mike of Rice, and Judy Stice and husband Scottie of Uvalde; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Thompson of Waco, and Patsy Posey Provost and husband Ross of Teague; one brother, Cecil Comer of Houston; four sisters-in–law, Ann Comer of Malakoff, Bernice Mae Hardison, and Yvonne Sartor both of Baytown, and Janice Day of Kaufman; one brother-in -law A.B. Miller of Baytown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Mondell, his loving wife of fifty-five years, his parents, one great- grandson, Jack Nash and his brother, Billy Mac Comer.
