BC Chamber announces Jan. student of the month

Heather Quarles, class president for Orangefield High School, was awarded the Jan. 2011 Student of the Month award by the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce.

Heather Quarles, daughter of Stephen Quarles and Catherine Suarez, is ranked fifth out of 136 in her graduating class in Orangefield. She is active in Varsity Track, Band, Library Club, and Bobcats Against Drinking and Drugs. She plans on going to college at Texas A&M to become a veterinarian and to one day open her own veterinarian clinic.

She has received honors for perfect attendance, McNeese State University High School All Star Band and has been chosen by Orangefield faculty for the National Honor Society High academic achievement award.

Mr. Cascio, her Honors AP English and Honors Spanish III teacher says Quarles is, “an excellent student in all respects: hardworking, dedicated, diligent and preserving.”

Shane Stankus, class presidents for Bridge City High School, was awarded the Jan. 2011 Student of the Month award by the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce.

Shane Stankus, son of Dave and Helen Stankus, is ranked sixth out of 181 in his graduating class of Bridge City High School. He is active in National Honor Society, All-State Academic, All-District Football, and is in many Honors classes. He currently is the President of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), is an officer for the National Honor Society, as well as a volunteer firefighter for Bridge City. Stankus has future plans of becoming a nurse.

Stankus’ English Teacher Diane Grooters says “his determination, integrity and strong faith do not permit him to give less than his best to any assignment, activity, sport or goal. He is a young man of purpose and strength of character that will serve him well and benefit all who know him.”

Both Quarles and Stankus received a certificate marking their achievement as student of the month along with a VIP pass to Tiger Rock Martial Arts of Bridge City, $25 gift certificate and goody basket from Sabine Federal Credit Union, $25 gift certificate to Wal-mart and a certificate from Firestone Community Federal Credit Union to start a new account.
