Harry P. Delano, 86, of West Orange, died Friday, Feb. 11, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. Barry Bradley of First Baptist Church in Orange.
Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in West Orange. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Orange, on May 8, 1924, Harry was the son of Roy G. and Maggie (Young) Delano. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea, and he was a boxer during his time in the Navy. A graduate of the Allen Academy in Bryan, Harry served as Chief of Police in West Orange during the 1960’s. He worked as a pipefitter at Texaco, and was a member of OCAW and First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Delano; son, Harry Lee Delano; and brothers and sisters, Vergitta Nation, George Delano, Roy Delano, Ruby Delano, Vertis Delano, Elma Perry, and Jerry Delano.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Diann Ray of West Orange; grandson, Donald Magness and his wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Lanie and Mason; sister, Levenya Ravellette of Terrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
