Tree accident kills Orangefield resident

On Tuesday Nov. 29, at approximately 4:10 p.m. the Orange County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call concerning a tree that had fallen and struck a person in the 13000 block of Duncan Woods Lane in Orangefield.

Upon arrival Deputies learned that the victim, Mr. Edwin Worthy, a 70 year old Orangefield resident was cutting a large tree on a neighbor's property for firewood. Mr. Worthy cut the tree and the top of the tree got hung up in an adjacent tree. The cut tree snapped, broke loose from the adjacent tree and fell on Mr. Worthy. Family members were at the scene and called 9-1-1. The fire department and EMS responded to the scene but was not able to revive Mr. Worthy.

Orange County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Janice Menard responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Worthy deceased. Mr. Worthy was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue where an autopsy will be performed.
