Early morning nap lands Louisiana man in jail

A Louisiana man was taken to jail early Wednesday morning when he was found sleeping in his car in the Northway Shopping Center parking lot.

Officer Joshua Dempsey was on patrol when he observed a suspicious looking vehicle that was running in the parking lot.

Officer Dempsey approached the vehicle to find that there was no one in the driver’s seat. When Dempsey looked into the vehicle, he saw a man sleeping in the passenger seat. Dempsey knocked on the window and woke the man up.

The man, who was identified as 42 year old Jonathon McCarty of Louisiana, was asked if he had been drinking lately. He replied that he had drank about 6 beers a few hours prior to falling asleep.

A check through dispatch showed that McCarty was wanted on several warrants out of Precincts 1 and 3, which included speeding, failure to appear and no seat belt. The fines totaled over $1,000.

McCarty was taken into custody and transported to the Orange County Jail.
