Woman arrested on public intoxication charges

Monday evening, at approximately 11:31, Officer Patrick McDonald was dispatched to the 400 block of W. Dewey in reference to an intoxicated female making threats against herself with a knife.

Upon arrival, Officer McDonald made contact with the complainant. Standing next to the complainant was another woman who had threatened to harm herself.

As police talked with the suspect, an strong odor of alcohol was detected. As the woman walked toward McDonald, he observed her to have an unsteady gate, having to hold on to the side of a vehicle to keep herself standing up.

The woman advised police that she had just come from the “bar”, and she had been drinking beer.

When officer McDonald asked the woman if she wanted to hurt herself, she began to cry and said she didn’t want to go to jail. The woman continued to cry and wouldn’t answer any questions.

The complainant told police that the woman was not welcome at her residence and that she did not feel safe with the woman there.

Based on the woman’s physical demeanor, slurred speech and unsteady balance, McDonald believed the woman to have lost all physical and mental faculties, and believed her to be a danger to herself or others.

The woman was placed into custody for public intoxication. While police were taking her into custody, she advised that she could possibly have a crack pipe in her bra.

The woman was transported to the Orange County Jail and underwent a search. Jail staff was unable to find anything illegal on the woman.

She was released to jail staff and booked.
