Versatility, technical excellence and a captivating style are the trademarks of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, qualities that have garnered both critical and audience acclaim. These qualities keep the RWB in demand as it presents more than 150 performances every season. The RWB achieves a fine balance between the classical traditions of Europe and the boldness of contemporary ballet, which in turn has produced a unique style.
Moulin Rouge – The Ballet has been seen by close to 60,000 people across North America and has elicited cheers and ovations wherever it tours. Along with a rousing French soundtrack, the ballet features high-kicking choreography and a passionate story of love, ambition and heartbreak.
Turn of the century Paris ... a city of exquisite contradiction. The heady elixir of personal freedom bred lifestyles both reckless and addictive. Drawn to Paris by the city’s passion, a flame fuelled by the hearts of lovers and the souls of poets, Matthew and Nathalie tempt fate as they seek love and destiny at the infamous cabaret – The Moulin Rouge.
“The red windmill bathes the stage in a pervasive passion that is painted on the dancers’ lips, accentuated by their enticing petticoats, confirmed in the hearts of the young lovers, and finally gushes, blood red, in a burst of rage and jealousy.” Maud Cucchi, Le Droit.
Experience the passion, marvel the technique, revel in the expression of joie de vivre!
This production is sponsored locally by Lanxess and the Southeast Texas Arts Council.
