Symphomy of SE Texas presents youth concerts

The Symphony of Southeast Texas presents its annual Youth Education Concerts on Tuesday, Jan. 31 and Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day, at the Julie Rogers Theatre.

Over 3,500 local students are expected to attend the free concerts and gain exposure to a live performance of a symphony orchestra.

The concerts represent the second year of a three-year “going green” theme. “Going Green 2: Hybrids” will explore how composers incorporate other, non-symphonic styles of music into their orchestra works. Maestro Tipton will educate the students throughout the program on the pieces chosen and the orchestra overall.

The concert will also feature Karen Ji, Outstanding Performer from the 2011 Symphony League String Competition, in a movement from Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons.”
