The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. celebrated the completion of the newest phase in the growth of their Legacy Park project - a permanent sign. As with all of the improvements made to the park, donors have provided the materials and costs.
Those providing the majority of the funds or labor for the sign include Frey’s Landscape, LLC; the reunion classes of Little Cypress High School 1952-1970; Child’s Building Supply, Inc., LNG Terminal Services, Inc., and Wes and Sylvia Bland.
One of those attending the event was Cody Courmier, the 2005 LCM alum who originally designed the park while attending Sam Houston State University. “It is so much better than what I visualized,” said Courmier. Cody is currently a graphic design and 3-D animation artist with Anadarko, in Denver, Colorado. When he submitted his first designs for the park, there was a big fiberglass bear sitting in the middle of a stand of trees and that was it.
After adjusting the designs for handicap accessibility, and financial efficiency, and hours of work on the part of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, LCM Maintenance, and other volunteers, the park has turned into a place that really does honor graduates from the past, present, and future.
The Foundation’s goal is to enhance the educational opportunities of students through providing competitive grants to educators across the District. Teachers complete applications for financing of projects that are not possible through the District’s regular budget.
Since 2004, when the Foundation began the grant process, 90 grants, totaling $114,753.17 have been awarded. These are funded through individual donations, projects such as the annual Golf Tournament and “LCM’s Got Talent” Showcase, and the sale of bricks and pavers for Legacy Park.
The brick project is on going and a brochure can be downloaded from the District’s website, at www.lcmcisd.orglink for details. For additional information, contact Marlene Courmier, Executive Secretary, at 409-920-2064 or [email protected]link.
