UPDATE: Fatal shooting reported at Jefferson County Courthouse

According to several local news sources, there was a fatal shooting at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Beaumont today.

The shooter, 41 year old Bartholomew Granger, of Houston, apparently shot several people on the day he was scheduled to make a court appearance on sexual assault charges.

Granger was scheduled to appear in Judge Stevens court for sexually assaulting his mentally challenged daughter, who was also one of the shooting victims. The 20 year old daughter, Samantha Jackson, was also run over by Granger at the scene. She is currently listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

Granger was taken into custody shortly after the shootings. He was also reportedly shot by officers at the scene, He was treated and released for his wounds, and transported to jail.

An elderly woman, 79 year old Minnie Seabolt, was dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. At least three other people were shot, including one victim who was shot outside the courthouse, one in the basement of the County Clerk’s office, and another at the bus transfer station.

According to Sheriff Mitch Woods, the other shooting victims, who were all related to the shooter, were treated and released at local hospitals.

The investigation is ongoing.
