Betty Jo Porter

Betty Jo Porter, 74, of Mauriceville, died Thursday, Oct. 18. She was born June 2, 1938, to Elzina and Velia Bertrand in Crowley, LA., and had been a resident of the area since 1972. Betty worked as a nurse for a few years, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her family. She enjoyed working around her house and in the yard.

Survivors include her sons, Randy Porter and his wife, Lillie, of Kingwood; Troy Porter and his wife, Tina, of Nederland; Michael Porter and his wife, Sue, of Tomball; daughters, Roxann Richards and her husband, Kent, of Hardin; Debra Luther and her husband, Robert; and Angel Rucker and her husband, Tommy, all of Mauriceville; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Velia Bertrand, Jr., and his wife, Evelyn, of Biloxi, MS; and sister, Una Henry of Crowley, LA.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmo James Porter; long-time companion, Jerry Langford; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Ogden; brothers, Robert and Jimmy; and sister, Edna.

A gathering of Mrs. Porter's family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
