The students of Phyllis’ Dance Studio who recently participated in the Grand Finale recital are all smiles for the camera.
Generations of young girls since 1963 with aspirations of becoming a dancer have been going to Phyllis’ Dance Studio in Bridge City.
“I have enjoyed and loved working with every child since the very first class,” said Phyliss Hass.
Hass began her own dance career by studying dance at Carnegie Hall in New York with world renowned professional dance masters. During this time, she was offered the lead in the New York Civic Ballet. Also, during her career she was asked to teach master dance classes at conventions in New Orleans, La. and Dallas.
In 1958 she opened a dance studio in Port Arthur before moving the studio in Bridge City five years later where she has taught students from age two through adulthood to dance. Throughout the many years, her love of teaching dance has never waned, but continued to grow. What was once little girls in her class, have grown into women with children of their own and return with their daughters to learn to dance. In some instances, a third generation also comes back to the dance class.
‘What a joy this has been to see the generations following in their dance steps, “ Hass said.
Types of dance taught include ballet, tal, jazz, pointe, lyrical, drill team and hip hop. They also teach cheerleading and gymnastics. This year they are adding contest participation throughout the state of Texas.
Registration for classes is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 10 at the studio located at 720 E. Roundbunch.
