NWS predicts chance of sleet

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles believes there is a chance we could see a mix of light rain and light sleet this afternoon and this evening, for most of our region - the I-10 corridor northward to east Texas and central Louisiana.

No accumulation of frozen precipitation is expected because the ground is warm enough to melt it. No problems for roads or bridge is expected either because temperatures will not fall to the freezing level until after midnight tonight, after the precipitation has ended.

Wednesday morning will see temperatures in the 28-32 F range for east Texas and central Louisiana, and 30-34 F along the I-10 corridor. However, Thursday morning a hard freeze is expected - lower 20s in east Texas and central Louisiana, to upper 20s along the I-10 corridor.

Residents are reminded to be careful when heating their homes during this cold spell. Heating equipment is a leading cause of home fire deaths. Keep anything that can burn or catch fire at least three feet from your heating equipment, such as a furnace, fire place, wood stove, or portable space heater. Do not use your oven to heat your home. If you are going to bed or leaving the room, turn off your space heater.
