Icy road conditions may continue through Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles will be issuing a winter storm warning for our entire region, starting late tonight through early Wednesday.

For east Texas and central Louisiana, freezing rain will begin after midnight tonight, and transition to sleet and snow during the day on Tuesday, before tapering off Tuesday evening. Total snow accumulation will be 2-3 inches, with ice accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch.

For southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, freezing rain will begin Tuesday morning, and transition to sleet Tuesday afternoon, before turning to snow and ending Tuesday night. Total snow accumulation will be 1-2 inches, with ice accumulations of around one-quarter of an inch.

For south central Louisiana, freezing rain will beginTuesday morning, and eventually transition to sleet and snow by Tuesday evening, and taper off as snow late Tuesday night/early Wednesday. Total snow accumulation will be 1-2 inches, with ice accumulations of around one-third of an inch. This could be a significant ice storm, with extended power outages possible.

Elevated roads and bridges will be hazardous to travel region-wide through Wednesday, due to minimal warming temperatures during the day on Wednesday. Road conditions should be better by mid to late Thursday morning.
