Joseph Marks, Sr.

Joseph Percy “ J. P. “ Marks, Sr., 91, of Orange, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.

Born Sept. 16, 1922 in Orange, to Joe and Pearl (Dyson) Marks, he was a lifelong resident of Orange. He worked as a process operator at the DuPont Sabine River Works Plant in Orange, and served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army during World War II. While in the Army, J. P. served as a fifth grade technician in the 460thParachute Field Artillery Battalion fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and earning an honorable discharge Nov. 8, 1945. Being a part of what America came to refer to as the Greatest Generation, J. P. enjoyed spending time with his family and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orange.

J. P. is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sonny Marks, Boo Boo Marks and Teenay Marks; sisters, Gertrude Tinsley and Florine Marks, and a daughter, Anna Marie Marks.

Those who will most cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Lois Marie Marks of Orange; his sons, Tee Joe Marks and wife, Judy of The Woodlands and Bob Marks of Austin; his grandchildren, Tracy Harbour and husband, Randy, Brandon Marks, Derek Marks and wife, Mailee, Esther Marks and Ian Marks and wife Laura; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial Mass of the Resurrection to Honor J. P.’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange, with Father Joseph P. Daleo, serving as celebrant. Rite of Committal, Military Honors and Interment will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Orange.
