Leslie Carlton Jones, 76, of Orange passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
He was born Nov. 10, 1938 in Beaumont, to Opal Charlene (Frey) and Thomas Jefferson Jones.
He had lived in the Orange area since 1960 and was a member of North Orange Baptist Church.
He was a veteran, serving his country in the US Air Force.
Leslie was in law enforcement for many years, serving with the Orange Police Department for 28 1/2 years, Orange County Sheriff Office and security office for US Marshall Service in Beaumont.
He was an avid golfer, going with his friends or watching it on TV. He also enjoyed going fishing and hunting.
He was very active in his community, volunteering at Shangri La.
He was past president of the Lutcher Theater Guild, worked with his church group NOBS and he was a master gardener.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Jefferson Jones; mother, Opal Charlene Frey Jones Droptini, step father, Andrew Droptini Sr .; sister, Betty Joyce Heathcock; brothers, Thomas James Jones, Bobby Gerald Jones, Wesley Ernest Jones and great granddaughter, Bristol Perry.
Leslie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bette Ann Jones of Orange; daughter, Deborah Kay Hardy and husband, Ed of Clear Lake; son, David Carlton Jones and wife, Amber of Orange; sisters, Geneva Ann Amy, Carolyn Jane Modica and husband, PJ both of Beaumont; step brothers, Andrew Droptini Jr. and wife, Jan of Beaumont, Jerry Droptini and wife, Janice of Leander, Johnny Droptini and wife, Janet of Beaumont. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren Jones, Stephen Hardy, Kaitlyn Jones and fiancée, Blake Perry, Keaton Jones, Kinley Jones; great grandchild, Brody Perry; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 16, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Dorman Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 17, at 10:00 am, at North Orange Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lynn Ashcraft and the Rev. Scott McIntosh officiating. Entombment will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dormanfuneralhome.com.
