Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Orders can now be placed for Lamar University license plates, campus officials announced. The specialty plates, which feature the LU star logo, will be available through MyPlates.com.
“The official Lamar University license plates are now available,” said Kate Downing, special assistant to the president. “Both personalized and randomly generated plates are able to be ordered.”
“We are excited to have the opportunity to make these plates available to anyone who would like to display their pride in LU every day,” Downing said. “A portion of the plate sales will support Lamar University.”
The university must generate 200 orders for plates to be produced, Dowing said. If 200 orders are received by Dec. 1, the first plates will be produced in February.
Plates can be ordered for 1 year, 3 year or 5 year terms.
Once 200 pre-orders have been placed, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will schedule programming and final production to add the plate into the state system. Hence, depending on how soon the goal of 200
pre-orders is reached, it could be a number of months before plates are manufactured. The State allows up to 180 days to reach the 200 pre-orders, Downing said.
“It would be wonderful to see Lamar University represented on Texas highways on the vehicles of many of our more than 70,000 alumni, most of whom live all across our great state,” Downing said.
