Orange County Health/Restaurant Inspections

Orange County Health Inspector James Scales made the following inspections on area businesses from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15:

Pinehurst BBQ and Steak, 2100 Texas Ave., Bridge City - Need to date all foods; found molded lemons/green peppers/piece of pie/lettuce in coolers, management disposed of immediately; foods being stored on floor inside walk in cooler; several flies/gnats found throughout; area around fryers/grill needs to be cleaned of old foods/dust; mold found inside ice machine and back storage room needs to be cleaned out and old broken/unused equipment needs to be discarded. Score - 82

Vidor Superette #2, 2410 N. Main St., Vidor - Store name and address are needed on all bags of ice sold at store; pulled several expired foods from shelves; water not hot enough inside restroom and back storage room; slime was found inside the ice machine; ice scoop was found on top of box in storage shelves and cappuccino machine needs to be cleaned of old foods. Score - 85

GG's Gumbo, Corner of Hwy. 62 and FM 105, Orange - Pre-opening inspection. No score

Texas Country Store #10, 9508 Hwy. 12, Mauriceville - Found chicken at unsafe temperatures; store name and address are needed on all bags of ice sold at store; no hot water found at three compartment sink and the hand-washing sink; towels needed inside mens restroom; several insects were fun din storage cabinets; chemicals being stored above pet foods; heavy mold was found inside ice machine and store needs to check product dates on store shelves. Score - 75

Donut Palace, 190 W. Freeway, VIdor - Sausage and boudain found at unsafe temperatures; employee drinks without lid and straw and need to repair missing pipes from under the hand-washing station. Score 88

Church's Chicken, 1805 Texas Ave., Bridge City - Hair restraints needed; brown lettuce found on serving line; all storage equipment, walls, floors and containers need to be cleaned and sanitized of old grease; storage racks/air vents and returns are rusted and need to be repaired; area around fry station has lots of old grease (vents, walls, fryers); The score does not reflect the condition of the restaurant. Daily cleaning schedule for the next week was given to management. Score - 89

Orange Food Mart, 4710 Meeks Dr., Orange - Store name and address are needed on all bags of ice sold at the store; pulled several (2013) expired foods from shelves; several dead roaches found; ice scoop found sitting on top of box; Store needs to be cleaned more often and store needs to discard all broken/unused equipment. Score - 86

Subway #62184, 1545 N. Main St., Vidor - Defrosting frozen soups on top of counter restaurant; having issues with hot water staying at the correct temperature - a plumber was called out during the inspection. Score - 92

Tequila's Mexican Restaurant, 1085 Texas Ave., Bridge City - Need to label/date all foods in coolers/freezers; pulled molded vegetables from walk-in cooler; raw chicken being stored next to vegetables in walk-in cooler; service sink dripping water from under sink - need to repair; found broken ice scoop; floors throughout need to be cleaned of old foods, lights inside kitchen need to be cleaned of dead bugs and light shields needed inside kitchen. Score 82

Best Price Motel, 2610 IH-10 W., Orange - Dead bugs and spiders found in storage and inside of coolers/freezers need to be cleaned of old foods. Score - 94

Sonic #4788, 11786 Hwy. 62 N., Mauriceville - Need to cover all foods inside reach-in coolers/freezers; several clean dishes found with old food still on them - need to rewash and floors and walls throughout need to be cleaned. Score - 93

Comfort Inn, 2321 Hwy. 62 S. - Employee foods found inside reach-in coolers with foods for public sale; no hot/cold running water found at hand-washing sink; hotel needs to discard all broken/used equipment from kitchen area. Score - 89

Happy Donuts, 1081 N. Main St., Vidor - Found ham/eggs/sausage/boudain out of proper temperature; small child found playing in kitchen; employee drinks/food throughout; date/label all foods; pulled expired milk (1 month expired); using same pan liners multiple times; need to cover all food; no hot water found in restroom; need to repair reach-in freezer door that is held on by tape; floors/walls/equipment need to be cleaned of old foods; store in very poor shape. Will return in a week to check progress of clean up/violations. Score - 65

Circle K Kiddie Ranch, 16944 Hwy. 62, Orange - Score - 100

Texas Gumbo Hut, 2822 Western Ave., Orange - Score - 100

Senor Toro Mexican Restaurant, 2308 Lutcher Dr., Orange - Defrosting beef inside pan of water; several live roaches found - pest management was called out and arrived to treat during inspection; front cooler is holding water; floor drain clogged and needs repair and light shield needed. Score - 90
