James “Butch” Tumey, 76, of Winnie, died Saturday, Jan. 3. He was born April 14, 1938, in Harris County, to Florence Dorothy Hill Tumey and Sidney Thomas Tumey. Butch had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was an independent pipeline welder for over 45 years and enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Mary Deborah Tumey of Winnie; sons, Scott Tumey and his wife, Sandra, of Beaumont and Tony Tumey and his wife, Sarah, of League City; daughters, Rachel Wright of League City and Kim Dolley of Orange; grandchildren, Madison, Austin, Sabrina, Taylor, Rebecca, Caleb, and Hannah; brother, Donald Tumey and his wife, Nancy, of Greenwell Springs, La; sister-in-law, Elsie Tumey, of Missouri; other special family members, who called him “Uncle Butch”, Lynda Miller; Billy Miller and his wife, Tina, of Milam; Melanie Murphree and her husband, Mike, of Rockport; Shannon Miller of Winnie; and Marti Dallison and her husband, Gralin, of Fannett; two special nephews; three special great-nephews; three special nieces; two special great-nieces; and many special dear friends in Winnie and surrounding areas, that Butch and Mary have known all these years, and who they shared precious memories with.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorthea Louise Tumey Hall; and brother, Irvin Tumey.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a memorial service for Mr. Tumey beginning at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at First Baptist Church Stowell, 113 Van Nostrand, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie. A private family interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
