Lutcher presents The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley

The Lutcher Theater will present The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Friday, Jan. 23, with two performances at 9:30 and 11:30 AM. A Lutcher Incredible Kids Event presentation, tickets are $4 for this one-hour show and are available by calling the Lutcher Box Office at 886-5535.

Stanley Lambchop is just like everyone else.

That's the problem.

For Stanley, life is TOO normal.

Determined to do something amazing, something no oneʼs ever seen before, he makes a wish on a falling star.

That night, the bulletin board on the wall above Stanleyʼs bed comes loose and falls – right on top of him.

The next morning, Stanley Lambchop wakes up flat.

Not just a little flat...really, really flat! Thus begins his new life and an unexpected quest to see the world, which comes surprisingly easy when you can travel through the mail as a letter! Along the way, Stanley thwarts a robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris and surfs off the coast of Hawaii.

Heʼs stamped, posted and cancelled from Hollywood to France to Honolulu and beyond.

Once Stanley realizes that great adventures arenʼt as special without his family around to share them, he becomes a three-dimensional boy once again and learns that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Jeff Brownʼs beloved childrenʼs book, “Flat Stanley,” was written in 1964 and has become a literary and pop cultural phenomenon. The musical stage adaptation has followed in its footsteps receiving national critical acclaim. “What I love about the show are all the teachable moments that donʼt feel like lessons,” says DCTʼs guest director Michael Serrecchia. “Itʼs a fun, Broadway-style musical comedy about the value of being different and the importance of family.”

The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley is produced by Dallas Children’s Theater On Tour and enjoyed by ages 5 and up. Recent Dallas Children’s Theater productions presented by the Lutcher Theater include Stuart Little, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, and Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters.

Named by Time Magazine as one of the top 5 children's theater companies in the US, and the only one of that group to tour nationally, this critically acclaimed company travels coast to coast with professional large-scale productions designed to stir the heart, stretch the mind and promote education.

Each touring production is selected and designed with a youth and family audience in mind from titles and materials that reflect the cultural diversity of our world community.

They encompass a combination of new plays, familiar stories, literary works, biographies, mythology, folk tales, music, dance, and puppetry.

With such a vast and impressionable audience to serve, DCT's productions usually target a different age range every other touring season.

Study guides accompany each production and a variety of curriculum based workshops and residencies are also made available to teachers and students.

Dallas Children's Theater began a local touring program in 1985 with a Native American piece entitled Legend of the Bluebonnet. In 1989, the touring roster expanded to statewide and regional venues. In 1996, DCT launched its first national tour. September 2006 marked DCT's introduction to the world stage, as the theater was honored with an invitation to perform at the 2006 Shanghai International Children's Culture and Arts Expo in Shanghai, China.

DCT believes that theater provides a unique learning opportunity, which allows children exposure to ideas and imagery that reflect their own experiences and challenge their own understanding of the world in which they live. To this end, Dallas Children's Theater aims to engage and inspire children, to produce theater that reaches beyond the stage.

Lutcher Incredible Kids Events is sponsored by Printpack Inc. and Service League of Orange.
