Rodney LeJeune, 79, of Nederland, died Sunday, Jan. 25, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born July 27, 1935, in Church Point, La, to Amada Matte and Gabriel LeJeune, and had been a longtime resident of the area.
Rodney was a United States Army veteran and had retired from Consolidated Freightways after 33 years as a truck driver. He was a well-known Cajun musician and singer. Rodney was a member of The Cajun French Music Association and received numerous awards for his music. He enjoyed camping and piddling in his workshop. Rodney will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cookie LeJeune of Nederland; son, Dale LeJeune and his wife Deanna, of Nederland; daughter, Karen “DeeDee” and her husband, Greg, of Sour Lake; grandson, Chance Hobbs; granddaughter, Kalli Hobbs-Davis and her husband, Dannie; great-grandson, Luke Davis; sisters, Jane Bordelon and her husband, Farrel, of Ville Platte, La. and Ella Solieau, of New Orleans; brother, Dewey LeJeune and his wife, Mary-Lois, of Bridge City and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Emily White, Alicia Dies, Thelma Vincent, and Leola Hanks and brother, J.D. LeJeune.
A gathering of Mr. LeJeune’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
