LU's signing day press conference scheduled

Lamar head football coach Ray Woodard has scheduled his Signing Day Press Conference for Wednesday, Feb. 4, beginning at noon in the Dauphin Complex team meeting room. One of the most highly anticipated days on the athletics calendar, National Signing Day is the first official day high school athletes can sign a letter of intent with the college of their choice.

A meal will be provided at noon, followed by Woodward announcing the 2015 incoming class. Time has been reserved at 12:30 p.m. for interviews with the media. The LU coaching staff will also have video highlights of each signee.

The recruiting efforts of the Lamar coaching staff have paid huge dividends in a very short period of time. Just a season after Lamar set a record for the most Cardinals named to the All-Southland teams, LU increased that number this season. In addition to the number of Cardinals being recognized on a conference level, the 2014 campaign was the second-straight season that the Cardinals have had players named to multiple All-America teams.

The 2015 season will be the university’s sixth year on the gridiron since the rebirth of the program. The Cardinals are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. In just his fifth year, Woodard’s troops tied a school record for wins posting an 8-4 (.667) overall record, finishing among the league’s upper echelon with a 5-2 (.714) mark. In addition to the overall number of wins, Big Red closed out the season with a thrilling, 27-24, win over rival, and nationally ranked McNeese State. The exclamation point to end the season was the team’s first win over a ranked opponent, and against their rivals from Lake Charles, since football’s return.
